NTC Internship Fund

Newcomb-Tulane College Career Services has established the NTC Career Services Internship Fund to fund full-time Newcomb-Tulane College undergraduate students up to a maximum of $2000 for underpaid or unpaid internships that they would otherwise not be able to participate in due to financial limitations.

Our team is part of a more extensive event the week of February 19 called Summer Funding Week. There is more information to come on this event. Additionally, here is a document that lists other funding opportunities at Tulane.

Application Criteria

The fund supports students seeking to participate in internship experiences that provide experience related to their ultimate career goals as an undergraduate student at Tulane. This includes housing, travel, and living expenses. Additionally, the fund can be awarded in lieu of wages.

Self-guided research, such as independent study or independent research projects, is ineligible for funding. Research internships under a university, employer, or other organization are eligible.

NTC Career Services will deny funding requests for internships that require “program fees” to participate, or that promise employment in exchange for payment.

Before applying please read our Generative AI Policy.

FAQs

Who is eligible for funding?

Currently only full-time Newcomb-Tulane College undergraduates are eligible for funding.

What will the fund cover?

The Fund will cover expenses related to the stated internship experience, including housing, travel, professional materials (such as laptops, professional clothing, etc.), or living expenses. Additionally, the fund can be awarded in lieu of wages in the case of unpaid internships. Students will be asked to elaborate on their reasons for requesting funding in the required cover letter and budget sections.

Unfortunately, international travel and housing will not be eligible for funding.

How do I apply?

You can click the “APPLY” button above to access the application, which is nested within the NTC Grant application hosted by the NTC Grants Office. To apply, navigate to the “Type of Application” question and select “NTC Career Services Internship Fund” option.

Do I have to be accepted into an internship already to receive funding?

Yes. Only students who have been accepted into their internship experiences at the time of application are eligible for funding this year.

What pieces does the application include?

  1. Application Form
  2. Resume
  3. Cover Letter
  4. Budget (template linked in application)
  5. Proof of Summer Experience/Internship

Applications must be submitted by March 15, 2022, at 5 PM Central Standard Time. The committee will not review late applications.

Note: The Financial Aid release question will allow the Office of Financial Aid to share a limited summary of applicant’s financial need during the decision-making process to ensure that the NTC Career Services Internship Fund is as equitable a resource as possible.

How do I make a budget?

You can start making a budget using the official NTC Grants Budget Worksheet template. Be as specific as possible when listing items. Instead of listing “Housing – $500”, specify what you are looking to cover and why: “July Studio Apartment Rent – $500”.

Thoughtful, thorough applications are more likely to receive funding.

Do I need to submit recommendations?

Recommendations are not required but are recommended. Recommenders can include Tulane faculty, staff, or non-Tulane professionals who can vouch for an applicant’s responsibility and professionalism.

Recommenders must submit recommendations using the NTC Recommendation Letter Submission form.

I don’t have a resume. How do I make one?

NTC Career Services offers several resources related to resumes on our “Student Career Guides” page. If you would like further support, consider making an appointment with a Career Coach or meet with one of our fabulous Career Peer Advisors during our daily Drop-In Hours.

How do I write a cover letter?

NTC Career Services offers several resources related to cover letters on our “Student Career Guides” page. Cover letters should be no longer than one page.

I have never applied for a grant. Where can I get help with the application materials?

When will I know whether I am funded or not?

Applicants will receive a message of denial or acceptance by May 5, 2023 by 5 pm.
