Dress for an Interview

It is important to dress the part even for a video interview. Many interviewers are professionals and have taken time out of their day to complete the interview – they will already be dressed well! In the Freeman School of Business, it is expected that you dress Business Professional for all interviews, including virtual interviews.

Candidates should look professional, confident, and comfortable, and they are more likely to score well in the interview if they do. Avoid the “fashionable or trendy” looks and err on the side of formal—ask yourself, “Do I look promotable?” or “Am I dressed like the manager or other executives in the organization?” When in doubt, dress more formally. You are less likely to get docked for overdressing than underdressing.
