The Senior EHS Specialist supports EHS operations in the plant by completing critical tasks designed to promote compliance with federal, state, and local Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety: Assist with OSHA compliance activities
- Keeps the Safety Information Boards up to date with required postings, information, and metrics.
- Performs routine plant walkthroughs and housekeeping audits and issue corrective actions as needed.
- Participates in plant Safety Committee meetings and activities.
- Conducts EHS and site safety training and orientation for new employees and review content of facility EHS training programs as needed.
- Conducts toolbox talks and meetings for operational employees in various internal departments centered around current safety related issues or incidents.
- Completes incident reports, root cause analysis, and other investigations related to the company’s near- miss program.
- Monitors contractor safety program and periodically audit for adherence to company standards and requirements.
- Assists in training new vendors and contractors to company standards.
- Maintains a running inventory of PPE, reach out to vendors as needed, writes purchase requisitions for PPE and safety equipment to be signed off by EHS Director.
- Performs Job Safety Analysis of new processes and periodically audits current work tasks and employees.
- Performs routine system compliance audits and tasks which may include the following:
- Hot Work and LOTO Audit Form
- Confined Space Entry reviews
- Eyewash and Shower inspections
- Ladder inspections
- Fall protection equipment.
- PPE
- Forklift
- PSM
Environmental: Assist with TXDEP, EPA and local agency compliance activities
- Performs Environmental system compliance audits and tasks which include the following:
- DPCC/SPCC inspections
- Air permit recordkeeping and monitoring
- Waste storage and accumulation area inspections.
- Waste logs and inventory.
- TRI and Tier II reports
- Chemical Storage/containment/spill equipment inspections.
- Aboveground storage tanks
- Pollution control equipment inspections
- Participates in the Incident Investigation process. Tracks and follows up on corrective actions.
Education and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, safety, or related field with 3 – 5+ years of experience preferably in chemical manufacturing.
- Has completed OSHA 10-hour training or OSHA 501 training.
