Overview:
Bechtel has a strong commitment to protecting people and the environment as part of its mission, and is known for industry leadership in Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H, also known as HSE). ES&H teams are comprised of three distinct disciplines that collectively support our ES&H Management System and processes at project sites and offices. These teams include environmental scientists, safety professionals, and industrial hygiene scientists. Collectively, they provide technical guidance and perform planning, risk assessment, inspections and monitoring, training, and data management.
Locations will vary based on project needs and may include offices, facilities, or construction sites located throughout the U.S.
Job Summary:
Industrial Hygienists help develop and execute the industrial/occupational hygiene component of an Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of industrial hygiene disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in the preparation and implementation of routine industrial hygiene activities inclusive of the project Safety and Health Management Plan and associated industrial hygiene plans, procedures, methods, and training.
- Helps provide industrial hygiene input to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Subcontracts, and other project groups to make sure that requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, and subcontracts.
- Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, industrial hygiene requirements, and ES&H program execution.
- Identifies regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
- Provides technical guidance for industrial hygiene studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
- Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of health-related incidents.
- Helps identify ES&H stakeholders and resolve their concerns.
- Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of industrial hygiene requirements.
- Conducts inspections, sampling, and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify the need for corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel ES&H requirements.
- Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends, prepares reports, and enters data in Bechtel’s Industrial Hygiene Records System.
- Supports other ES&H team members and tasks, inclusive of all ES&H disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, or Master of Science (MS) degree, from an accredited university or college in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or a related scientific field.
- Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, standards, regulations, instrumentation, and sampling methods.
- Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
- Experience teaching and training others.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring, risk assessment, and control methods.
- Knowledge of engineering control systems, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment to mitigate hazards.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 Management System standards.
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
