Making the Most of Winter Break

Making the Most of Winter Break

With Fall exams now in the past, Winter Break brings a wealth of opportunity to focus on your career. Below are a few examples of how to utilize the time away from classes to make progress on your career goals.

Utilize online resources such as LinkedIn Learning (which is free for Tulane Students) to complete certificates and training on several topics. Chat with your career consultant on how these courses can help fill in gaps on your resume. Additionally, utilize the Turchin Library Career Business Databases to research companies and industries of interest.

Serving the community is an excellent way to make an impact, build your network, and gain transferrable skills. Select an organization that suits your passion and focus on building skills that can better align your resume with the qualifications with opportunities you’re interested in.

Cultivate your professional network by checking in with family and friends during the holidays about your career goals. The holidays provide a unique opportunity to engage with some of your greatest career resources (your contacts!).

Review and update your LinkedIn profile. Since over 95% of recruiters utilize LinkedIn to source and fill positions, make sure your profile is complete and professional. Check out some tips for maximizing LinkedIn on the Career Engagement Networking page.

Explore all the upcoming events and job postings on Handshake to plan how you will engage in career activities in the Spring. While you are there, book a spring check-in with your Career Consultant!

Explore the Freeman Career Engagement Site, and dive into the Resources Page for a plethora of career resources. Discover strategies for updating your resume, leveraging LinkedIn, networking, conducting career research, and more
